I am the Managing Attorney of The Law Offices of Paula S. Teske and Associates, a three-attorney law firm. I have practiced the art and science of law in Los Angeles since 1980, over 35 years. I hold an A.V. Rating from Martindale Hubbell, the highest rating given by attorneys to another attorney. This firm is a Certified Woman Owned Business.
Why I Do What I Do
I feel very inspired to work with my colleagues and clients. Our work is at once intimate and heart-wrenching. We connect with people when they feel vulnerable about their families and their futures. I care deeply about the well-being of my clients and always strive to find the best means for resolving their legal dilemmas and challenges: the best approach, the best arguments, and generally the overall best fit. I am as engaged in my clients’ cases as they are. I continually think through every situation and modify the strategies I’ve developed as the case progresses to make our arguments legally stronger and our path to resolution more efficient.
My team and I work hard to keep clients informed. We are committed to each case, but we allow for flexibility. We plan a roadmap at the onset of each case, but we are always on the lookout to identify areas where we might strengthen our case. After 30 years of practicing law, I have become adept at responding to the needs of the moment and changing strategies when needed. We invest much time in client communication, because we want what is best for our clients.
Our firm cultivates a culture not only of professional service but also of genuine camaraderie, which promotes coordinated legal services. We try to foresee the multi-dimensional needs of our clients and provide a structured and orderly approach to resolving every legal challenge we face.
More often than not, new clients come to our firm filled with anxiety and uncertainty. We try to inspire new clients and to provide alternative approaches, so that they feel calmer about the future .
Education and Background
I graduated from Purdue University with Phi Beta Kappa Honors and then attended the Loyola University School of Law in Los Angeles, where I served on the Law Review and attained Cum Laude Honors. I was also on the Dean’s List throughout these programs of study. Over the course of my career, I have practiced law in the litigation department of a multi-national firm (Sidley & Austin); the litigation department of a medium sized firm (Shield & Smith); and most recently the specialized boutique firm (Paula S. Teske & Associates) I founded 30 years ago.
I am a Certified Family Law Specialist, which requires an extra bar examination, specialized education, and ongoing training. I serve on the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Family Law Executive Committee (FLEXCOM). We take positions on legislation, provide education to members and communicate to attorneys and the public on Family Law topics. There are many changes every year in the law, and we do our best to bring this knowledge to our members and influence the state legislature on bills that impact the Family Law area. I have served on the Executive Committee for five years, and have been the Legislative Chair for three years.
I have taught legal studies to paralegal students at El Camino College and law students at University of West Los Angeles School of Law. I have taught Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses to attorneys in the area of Juvenile Dependency Law. I have also taught various community seminars on adoption, bankruptcy, and juvenile dependency law.
Hobbies and Activities
I’m a marathoner. I have completed six Los Angeles marathons (and counting). I love to travel, both in the U.S. and internationally. I try to take one trip abroad and several domestic trips every year. Recent adventures have included Turkey, Greece, Spain, France, England and Germany. I also love nothing better than a road trip across the country. My other favorite activities include yoga, racketball, and spiritual studies.
