According to recent reports, Identity Theft in now one of the fastest growing crimes in the country. With the increased use of credit cards for Internet purchases and increased knowledge of criminals in how to steal the identity of unsuspecting citizens, Identity Theft is now occurring in record numbers.

Because of the nature of Identity Theft, victims often go months before discovering that their credit has been ruined. Frequently, the "discovery" is not made until creditors come knocking, seeking to collect thousands of dollars in debts that the victim never incurred.

Congress and many states have passed laws to prevent this crime, but these laws do little to assist those who have already become victims.
